General Information
John Carmack is a legend among the those that claim to be game programmers, but among the gaming community he is simply considered to be a god. His dedication and contributions to gaming technology have pioneered new frontiers in the first-person shooter genre. Despite the ever increasing competition in the development community, John Carmack's work continues to stand above the rest. His contribution that introduced 3D technology included the Quake 3 engine; however, his latest engine development in Doom III will be sure to revolutionize gaming and video technology.
He, along with Adrian Carmack (no relation), and Kevin Cloud co-own id Software, but John is also given the title of Technical Director. Other roles he has been titled with include, but are not limted to, Programming, and Support and Design. He has been credited as being a part of a game creation as early as 1990, while his most recent accomplishment is the highly anticipated and long awaited game, Doom III. Armadillo Aerospace Project
After creating a multitude of these popular computer games and tinkering with his personal fleet of Ferraris, John Carmack has decided to broaden his horizons by building a homemade spaceship that wins $10 million. This computer coding genius admits to being on an outrageous quest, but does indeed have the resources to back it up. The quest: Armadillo Aerospace. (read CNN's article here.)
