Doom 3 Minimum System Requirements
by: The Phobos Lab

With all the hubbub floating around the net lately about what would and what wouldn't run DOOM³, we decided to bring an end to the system requirement confusion and contact the main man, John Carmack, himself. Here is the official word on the minimum system configuration you'll need to run Doom³.    [ read more ]

DOOM 3 Benchmarks
by: Kyle Bennett - [H]ard|OCP

The GeForceFX 5900 Ultra, 5600 Ultra, Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB, 9600 Pro, and 9500 Pro step up to the plate to show you what they have in what will likely be the deal breaker when it comes to buying a new graphics card. What we are showing you here today are DOOM 3 benchmarks. We have been asked not to comment on game content seen during this testing. So don't ask, as we are not telling. You will notice that we have thanked NVIDIA for making this possible, which will of course bring the conspiracy theorists out of the closet in droves. Yes, NVIDIA was the driving force behind making these benchmarks a public reality.    [ read more ]

DooM III - Beautiful, inescapable horror
by:Thierry Nguyen - Gamers.com

Anyone will tell you that Doom III was the most beautiful game at E3, a game that showed that id Software is the master of 3D engines. The ten-plus minutes of gameplay footage shown at E3 easily rivaled the best-looking CGI cut-scenes of the Resident Evil series, with the notable difference that there was actual gameplay instead of just canned cut-scenes. The demo was run on a 2.4GHz P4 with a next-generation ATI card, and it was hard to believe the images could move so fluidly.    [ read more ]

DOOM III: The Very First Look
by:Sal "Sluggo" Accardo - Gamespy.com

The year: 2145. The place: Mars.

We're currently zooming over the Martian landscape, passing over a massive installation of the Union Aerospace Corporation. Inside, a number of guards are chatting as a scientist passes by and sneaks into a nearby room. Now sitting at a computer terminal, the camera pulls in close to the scientist. He's nervous, obviously up to something he shouldn't be. His face is lit up by the glow of the computer screen, flickering in unison with the display of information on the monitor.    [ read more ]

DOOM III On Xbox Impressions
by: D.F. Smith - Gamers.com

That id Software's Doom III would come to Xbox, few gamers really doubted. That it would look as good as it evidently does, however, was probably considered a longer shot. The trailer debuted at this evening's Xbox press conference showed off some mighty mean graphics from the upcoming classic revival, and all powered by that wimpy little GeForce 3.    [ read more ]

Games - The Movies You Play
by: Brad King - Wired News

LOS ANGELES -- Video games, revenues of which are growing faster than those of either the music or movie industries, are booming in large part because game developers have borrowed so liberally from the makers of music and movies. These days, video games are a fusion of music and movies, a clash of entertainment culture that replaces Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts with game players who become the stars. Companies spend millions of dollars developing slick-sounding games with smooth graphics, and then market them with high-priced trailers.    [ read more ]

The Doom 3 myth exposed
by: Jack Russell - The Inquirer

THE UP AND COMING release of Doom 3 is easily one of the most anticipated events in the entire history of the personal computer, potentially equaled in recent years only by AMD's upcoming Athlon 64 launch and, when compared to the sum total of human history, by the Second Coming. For almost two years every video card that's been launched has been evaluated by its future standard, first all-but invisibly, and then, as the appointed day drew nearer, with increasing fervor. John Carmack may have done more damage to NVIDIA's low-end budget video lineup then the entire tech recession of the past three years combined when he uttered the (paraphrased) sentence: "Do not buy a GeForce4 MX to play Doom 3." He might as well have said: "Do not buy, consider, or look sidewise at a GeForce4 MX, period, for any reason."    [ read more ]
